Ipoh

Stay at Bedrock Hotel Ipoh · 1:50 PM

Our room no 1 is very spacious, big bathtub and free water dispenser in the room. It feels very comfortable. The location is pretty central, yet with parkings. Free breakfast provided, it is okay, but too much temptation with Ipoh good around. Nasi Ganja and Wong Kee Tau Fu Fa is just nearby.

Late lunch at Ipoh Tuck Kee Restaurant 德记炒粉专门店 · 4:44 PM

The Yu Kong Hor (RM 10) really very delicious, smooth and tasty.

Dessert at Funny Mountain Soya Beancurd · 5:16 PM

The are reasons this place is famous: fast, affordable, simple, tasty, accessible (location and hours wise).

Shopping at Mei Wei Biscuits · 5:40 PM

Bought some biscuits due to its convenient location.

Dinner at Atapas · 8:00 PM

We have the RM 168 four course menu. The Tuna starter was excellent, nice texture and taste, nicely seared. The soup is okay, mushroom probably better than the broccoli soup. As for the main, the lamb is probably not soft enough, and taste wise not to my expectations. The prawn is nice, but maybe slightly overcooked. The lemon tart is quite sourish, and the coconut ice cream is huge. Overall quite affordable, with room for improvement for the mains. Also dining for couple could turn noisy when there is a huge party, as it is open area seating. Service is good.

Breakfast at Yee Fatt Curry Mee · 7:05 AM

We came around 7.30am, so there was no crowd and park just in front. The dry curry noodle with chicken is the specialty, nice thick curry. The soup curry is nice too, but the thick curry sauce got diluted. RM 29.20 for two curry noodle and one coffee.

Breakfast at Sun Kim Aik Dim Sum Restaurant · 7:53 AM

This is a very local dim sum place, and very popular with the locals here. The dim sum is more rough and old school, hit and miss. You can feel the vibe of a traditional dim sum place. RM 45.40 for 6 plates of Dim Sum, plus tea. As a tourist, I prefer the more refined Chooi Yue Dim Sum.

Shopping at Kedai Biskut Sin Eng Heong · 9:18 AM

This place is famous for freshly made Kaya Puff. Comes at 9.30am or slightly earlier, as the queue build up pretty fast within minutes. Salted Egg Pastry with Chicken Floss also not bad.

Shopping at Shiffon Cake Inn · 9:34 AM

This shop sells surprisingly good taro chiffon cake, still nice after kept in fridge for a few days.

Brunch at Kedai Kopi Sun Yuan Foong · 10:18 AM

Sun Yuan Foong (famous for Chee Cheong Fun) and Sin Yoon Long (famous for Wantan Mee) next door are "friendly", so you can order food from both shop. This shop is just opposite the super famous Nam Heong. Iced coffee (RM 2.40) is nice. CCF with pork skin (RM 6) is good. They also sell some kuih.

Buy at Kedai Makanan Nam Heong · 10:59 AM

This shop remains one of the most popular tourist restaurants in Ipoh. The place is probably too small and too crowded. We didn't dine here, just tapau their egg tart (RM 2.60) and chicken bun (2.80). Queue time around 15 minutes. Not too sweet, good size and tastes pretty good. We only ate it when back in KL, so it would be advisable to taste a bite while it is still fresh. There is a mochi stall in front of the shop.

Visit at 怡保三奶巷 · 11:30 AM

Love this street more than concubine lane, with less crowd, less commercial and more art.

Visit at Concubine Lane | Lorong Panglima · 11:40 AM

Super crowded and filled with commercial activies on a narrow lane.

Visit at Kong Heng Square · 11:55 AM

Came here for photoshoot with old trees and alley.

Lunch at 天津茶餐室 Thean Chun Restaurant · 12:13 PM

One of most touristy old school kopitiam in Ipoh, where very old uncles operate most of the stalls. Kaisi Horfun + Taugeh (RM 13) is pretty good, live up to its Ipoh fame. Coffee (RM 2.30) is good.

Takeaway at Ayam Garam Aun Kheng Lim (Main Branch) · 2:33 PM

Tapau salted chicken for tonight. It is pretty alright, though one of the chicken not quite salted properly. The size suited for 3 person.
