Lunch at Big Singh Chapati @ SS15 Subang Jaya · 3:30 PM

Come at lunch with less crowd. It has some affordable lunch from RM 7.90 to RM 15+. The Curry here is really flavourful, one if my favorite place for affordable Indian food. We love the Masala tea here.

📅 Jul 19, 2023

Lunch at Restaurant Teo Chew Moi · 12:20 PM

My mom favorite porridge place: simple, tasty and affordable.

Dinner at Yakitori Syokudo Yae (Puchong) · 7:06 PM

Worth a try if you fancy Japanese yakitori, some hit and misses.

📅 Jul 16, 2023

Breakfast at Yee Fatt Curry Mee · 7:05 AM

We came around 7.30am, so there was no crowd and park just in front. The dry curry noodle with chicken is the specialty, nice thick curry. The soup curry is nice too, but the thick curry sauce got diluted. RM 29.20 for two curry noodle and one coffee.

Breakfast at Sun Kim Aik Dim Sum Restaurant · 7:53 AM

This is a very local dim sum place, and very popular with the locals here. The dim sum is more rough and old school, hit and miss. You can feel the vibe of a traditional dim sum place. RM 45.40 for 6 plates of Dim Sum, plus tea. As a tourist, I prefer the more refined Chooi Yue Dim Sum.

Shopping at Kedai Biskut Sin Eng Heong · 9:18 AM

This place is famous for freshly made Kaya Puff. Comes at 9.30am or slightly earlier, as the queue build up pretty fast within minutes. Salted Egg Pastry with Chicken Floss also not bad.

Shopping at Shiffon Cake Inn · 9:34 AM

This shop sells surprisingly good taro chiffon cake, still nice after kept in fridge for a few days.

Brunch at Kedai Kopi Sun Yuan Foong · 10:18 AM

Sun Yuan Foong (famous for Chee Cheong Fun) and Sin Yoon Long (famous for Wantan Mee) next door are "friendly", so you can order food from both shop. This shop is just opposite the super famous Nam Heong. Iced coffee (RM 2.40) is nice. CCF with pork skin (RM 6) is good. They also sell some kuih.

Buy at Kedai Makanan Nam Heong · 10:59 AM

This shop remains one of the most popular tourist restaurants in Ipoh. The place is probably too small and too crowded. We didn't dine here, just tapau their egg tart (RM 2.60) and chicken bun (2.80). Queue time around 15 minutes. Not too sweet, good size and tastes pretty good. We only ate it when back in KL, so it would be advisable to taste a bite while it is still fresh. There is a mochi stall in front of the shop.

Visit at 怡保三奶巷 · 11:30 AM

Love this street more than concubine lane, with less crowd, less commercial and more art.

Visit at Concubine Lane | Lorong Panglima · 11:40 AM

Super crowded and filled with commercial activies on a narrow lane.

Visit at Kong Heng Square · 11:55 AM

Came here for photoshoot with old trees and alley.

Lunch at 天津茶餐室 Thean Chun Restaurant · 12:13 PM

One of most touristy old school kopitiam in Ipoh, where very old uncles operate most of the stalls. Kaisi Horfun + Taugeh (RM 13) is pretty good, live up to its Ipoh fame. Coffee (RM 2.30) is good.

Takeaway at Ayam Garam Aun Kheng Lim (Main Branch) · 2:33 PM

Tapau salted chicken for tonight. It is pretty alright, though one of the chicken not quite salted properly. The size suited for 3 person.

📅 Jul 15, 2023

Breakfast at Chooi Yue Dim Sum Ipoh · 9:00 AM

Maybe one of the best modern dim sum place in Ipoh. Queue is systematic and fast, service as good. Most of the dim sum are delicate and delicious, good quality.

Visit at Mirror Lake · 9:30 AM

A very simple and short nature attraction with cave, lake and lime stone mountain. Mirror Lake 2 (RM 25) is a boat ride through a tunnel to a lake. Mirror lake (RM 4) is a walking tunnel connected to another lake. There is a boat ride service around the lake as well.

Visit at Kek Look Tong · 2:00 PM

A giant cave temple, and a park with pond, and a very small space for boat and bicycle rental. The cave is huge, cooling with many statues for Chinese gods. The park is beautiful too, surrounded by lime stone mountain. Remember to buy fish food at the entrance to feed fishes at the park's pond.

Teatime at Shun Jie fried rice cake · 3:12 PM

The fried fritters here is really good, but the queues are also long wait even on weekday. There is a 3 layer item where you can have fried rice cake + yam + potato, this thing is heavenly amazing (no kidding from a person who don't even like fried rice cake). They will recommend add a bit of salt, it does make it tastier. Even the fried banana fritters are really good. Only available for take away, so we ate in the car while it is fresh.

Teatime at Chang Jiang White Coffee · 4:00 PM

Iced coffee (RM 4.90) is fancy and nice. Toast (RM 6) is good, with 2 thick toast (cut into 4). Half boiled egg is done perfectly. The Dry Wanton Noodle (RM 9.20) is harder than the KL version, and I suspect there are if the 竹星面 type. Despite being a touristy place, service is still good with good coffee and food. Price might be higher, but also comes with quality and good portions.

Dessert at Deen CT Corner Cendol · 5:19 PM

Affordable and nice Cendol with red bean and jagung (RM 4.50). Sit at street corridor only, it is a stall, not a shop.

Dinner at Best Hillview Cafe · 8:00 PM

This is a local food court, not a tourist places. Satay and Mee Mamak is pretty good, recommended.

Supper at Restoran Cowan Street Ayam Tauge & Koitiau · 10:21 PM

This is probably the best bean sprout chicken I have tasted. The chicken is really made to perfection: tender and tasty. The bean sprouts are crunchy, with a nice flavour of soy sauce and pepper. The horfun is nice as well. RM 37 for 2 person, plus 1 drink. Feels like the proprietors are getting old, but still do the best they could. The place closed by 10.30PM.

📅 Jul 14, 2023

Breakfast at 882 咖啡厅 (882 Kopi Tiam) · 8:49 AM

The noodle and stuffed ingredients are really delicious. Hard to explain why such simple food are really nice. RM 17.70 for 2 bowl with ingredients. The rose coffee (RM 4) a bit fancy, but still good and worth trying.

Visit at Papan Village, Pusing Perak · 9:39 AM

If you like old buildings, or abandoned buildings, or small town historic buildings, Papan is the perfect place. Istana Raja Billah, a historic mansions with interesting architecture. You have quite a few abandoned shop houses over takan by nature and bayan trees. Artistic installation by locals. If you enjoy these, allocate at least half a day.

Stay at Bedrock Hotel Ipoh · 1:50 PM

Our room no 1 is very spacious, big bathtub and free water dispenser in the room. It feels very comfortable. The location is pretty central, yet with parkings. Free breakfast provided, it is okay, but too much temptation with Ipoh good around. Nasi Ganja and Wong Kee Tau Fu Fa is just nearby.

Late lunch at Ipoh Tuck Kee Restaurant 德记炒粉专门店 · 4:44 PM

The Yu Kong Hor (RM 10) really very delicious, smooth and tasty.

Dessert at Funny Mountain Soya Beancurd · 5:16 PM

The are reasons this place is famous: fast, affordable, simple, tasty, accessible (location and hours wise).

Shopping at Mei Wei Biscuits · 5:40 PM

Bought some biscuits due to its convenient location.

Dinner at Atapas · 8:00 PM

We have the RM 168 four course menu. The Tuna starter was excellent, nice texture and taste, nicely seared. The soup is okay, mushroom probably better than the broccoli soup. As for the main, the lamb is probably not soft enough, and taste wise not to my expectations. The prawn is nice, but maybe slightly overcooked. The lemon tart is quite sourish, and the coconut ice cream is huge. Overall quite affordable, with room for improvement for the mains. Also dining for couple could turn noisy when there is a huge party, as it is open area seating. Service is good.

📅 Jul 13, 2023

Breakfast at Choi Yuen Kedai Makanan · 9:55 AM

The dim sum here is definitely different from the ones in KL or Ipoh, it is sort of like small town flavour. If you are an adventurous foodie, you should give it a try. The shop has an old kampung nostalgic vibe to it. The Loh Mai Gai has a strong peanut flavour, and the fish ball is super firm. Siew Mai is mixed with turnip so it is crunchier, and Sang Yok Bao has an egg inside with a special sauce. Even the chilli sauce tasted different. The coffee also taste local. RM 20 for all these.

Dessert at Cendol Sungkai · 10:16 AM

The Cendol has a thick layer of syrup presentation, which then you can dilute it with the ice. The highlight would be the fragrance of the syrup. Cendol Biasa (RM 3)

Lunch at Kedai Kopi Ah Wah · 11:32 AM

Decent Mee Rebus, Curry Noodle and Coffee. RM 14.50

Snack at 欢喜 Hua Hee 油炸鬼 Yu Cha Kuih · 3:00 PM

One of the best Chinese Fried Donut I have in a while: fresh, crispy, flavourful with good ingredients. Yau Zha Guai very crispy on the outside, soft inside. Ham Chim Peng very flavourful, and red bean has good amount of red bean.

Shopping at Sin Guan Hoe Kedai Biscuit · 3:14 PM

Bought some Heong Peah and Tau Sa Piah.

Tour at River Cruise Teluk Intan Perak · 6:30 PM

Go for the sunset river cruise (RM 30) with a visit to Pulau Bangau to watch thousands of migratory birds. A must do in Teluk Intan, absolutely worth it.

Dinner at Poh Loong Seafood Restaurant (宝隆海鲜餐厅) · 8:11 PM

Wonderful place for local seafood. The medium size big head prawn is about RM 10 each, fresh meat and fragrant soy sauce. The Kum Heong Crab (big size one RM 90 per kg, each about 500-600g) is sufficiently meaty and fresh, and I quite like the sauce. The uncle who takes orders is very nice, giving good suggestion and doesn't upsell (trustworthy). Cooking is not fast though, even on a weekday. Too many other dishes we wish to try, but only 2 of us.

Visit at Menara Condong Teluk Intan · 9:54 PM

Come at night, not hot and with a light show, with some food trucks and vendors selling bubble soap. 夜里的斜塔【安顺】 晚上来看亮灯的安顺斜塔,气温舒适,灯光迷人,还有一些小吃车和卖泡泡肥皂的摊贩。

Lunch at I-Tea House (Aunty Lan Sarawak Deli) · 2:44 PM

Sarawak Laksa (RM 13.90) is really thick and flavourful. Kolo Mee (RM 9.90) has a nice springy texture and nice taste, and the BBQ meat is decent. 在Puchong的砂拉越美食【爱-茶室】 砂拉越叻沙(RM 13.90)真的很浓很香。 砂拉越干捞面(RM 9.90)口感弹牙,味道不错,烧烤肉也不错。

Teatime at Guan's @ Pusat Bandar Puchong · 3:55 PM

Plain Nasi Lemak (RM 7.90) is pretty good. Fragrant rice, crispy peanut and ikan bilis, even the egg tastes good. Love it. White Coffee (RM 4.50) is not sweet, slightly bitter with burnt aroma. Enjoy the flavor. Kaya Butter Toast (RM 4.50) is krispy and soft, and the kaya is not sweet. Nice.

📅 Jul 8, 2023

Lunch at Restoran Cha Chan Teng | 茶餐廳 · 12:54 PM

Ice Coffee (RM 3) slightly expensive, but it is pretty good. Prawn Noodle (RM 9) is very flavourful, slight spicy with good portion. Fried Turnip Cake (RM 8.50) is nice as well, with good chunks of turnip and egg.

Teatime at Chill Fé Do · 4:22 PM

A hidden cafe hidden in a marble factory and sales office. The food quality is good, but it also comes with higher price tag. The furniture here are some nice hard wood, which serve as a showroom and available for sale. It also has many interesting indoor plants. Plenty to explore here. Cappuccino (RM 11.90) is thick and big cup. Avocado Cake (RM 18.90) is surprising very good. Nice taste with some sort of pudding and jelly texture, and soft biscuit base. Peach Almond Sourdough Pastry (RM 12.50) is crispy and tasty as well.

Lunch at Restoran 2323 · 12:29 PM

Hakka Noodle (RM 7.50) comes in big portion. I like the texture and springy noodles, but the sauce is slightly sweet. The meat and wonton is alright. Coffee (RM 2.60) is good, slightly bitter.
